By the harbour since 1984
In November 1984, Alice Soares opened one of the city’s first Portuguese restaurants by Hamburg’s harbour: the Restaurante Porto. Today the family’s second generation carries the tradition on – and opens a new chapter with NAU.
The Nau Primeira was the first Portuguese ship to set out on an expedition to India. After the Cape of Good Hope was rounded in 1497/98, Lisbon became Europe’s most important spice-trading port for a century – and Portugal’s cuisine grew rich with treasures from around the world.
Genuss Guide 2026 / 27
Hamburg’s Genuss Guide names NAU the winner among the city’s Portuguese restaurants. Obrigado – we celebrate it with every plate that leaves our kitchen.

Kitchen & cellar
Our menu is deliberately compact: a few dishes, each composed with care – from Polvo Fatiado to rack of lamb in port sauce to the Filete de Vaca à Nau. Alongside: Portuguese wines you can also take home.
